Course Information

The RKYC offers Learn to Sail programs for all ages and skill levels. With Canadian Yachting Association certified instructors, the club will help you learn to sail in many different sizes of boats.

The goal of the Junior Learn to Sail Program is to teach the safe and proper handling of a small sailboat while developing an enthusiasm and love of the sport. The course is taught according to the Canadian Yachting Association's standards emphasizing safety, theory, boat handling and sportsmanship.

The RKYC undertakes to ensure an enjoyable experience for all that attend the course(s).

Instructors

The program is taught by CYA qualified instructors who are in attendance at all times, both on land and on the water in rescue boats. Competitive sailing is available outside the course times. The competitive sailing includes attending local, national and international events and is offered as a separate program. The prime objective of the Learn to Sail Program is safety and skill development for personal enjoyment and fellowship.

Optimist Wetfeet Program

This is a course recently formulated by the Canadian Yachting Association. It is designed to familiarize kids aged 5-8 with sailing and the water. Students will learn to put on a lifejacket, paddle a boat, and get an introduction to sailing. The emphasis of the course is on safety and fun. Students will also play games, and get acquainted with the water. Please note this is in addition to the existing Optimist program.

Program Fees

Program selection is a combination of age, height, weight and experience.

An administration fee of $50.00 will be charged for cancellation up to three weeks before course starts. Fees are non refundable after three weeks before course starts without a Doctor's Certificate.

Cheques are to be made payable to the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club (RKYC). Paid registrations take precedence over unpaid. We cannot guarantee a place if registration is not accompanied by at least 50 percent of the fee. Visa, Mastercard and Debit Card are also accepted.

Students do not need to bring their own boats. Those who bring their own single handed boat a $20.00 reduction in fees per course will apply.

Behaviour Policy

The RKYC undertakes to ensure an enjoyable experience for all that attend the course(s). Accordingly, the following items are deemed to be inappropriate behavior that will not be tolerated; including, but not limited too, bullying, physical aggression, verbal abuse to other children/disrespect for instructors, damage to club equipment/premises or another child’s possessions and deliberate misconduct on the water.

Depending on the nature of the incident of unacceptable behavior the parent will be contacted and appropriate action will be taken which may consist of dismissal from the course.
